I think it is important to always start off with something positive, so...
I purchased a 14 piece Emeril Stainless set in 2008, and I have been very happy with it. The fit, finish and especially the base design were all up to the demands of my GE Profile ceramic cooktop, which had mercilessly warped all pans that came before the Emeril set.
I recently purchased this 5 Qt soup pot. When it arrived, I was disappointed to see that a number of changes have been made in the product. So many changes, in fact, that the new pot is not a match for my existing set. The handle, lid and base design have all been modified, and in each case, the appearance, heft and quality have been reduced. The fit of the lid is also poorer. Most alarming is the changes in the base. The core material used here is not copper. The weight and thickness of the base has been reduced significantly (30-40%). There is a large dimple in the base now, reducing the surface contact. (Take note, those with ceramic or high output cooktops) There is no getting around the fact that mass of the base matters. It affects the distribution of heat in the pan, and how resilient the pan will be to abuse.
I guess its partly my fault for assuming that a product sold by the same brand and line (Emeril Stainless) would be the same product. This is not. I will be returning the pot to Emeril, or Martha, or whoever. Oh well it was nice while it lasted.

I bought this pot with mainly one purpose in mind. I needed a large pot to make mashed potatoes in. I have large non-stick pots, but you cannot use electric mixers in them. I just made pork, sauerkraut and mashed potatoes for 6 for New Year's Day and this pot was perfect for the spuds. I'm sure I will make soups in this and boil spagheti too. I gave it 4 stars because the lid handle gets extremely hot. This handle should be a silicone handle. Aside from that,I like the stainer lid and the overall appearance of the pan and it's size.

There is a reason why it's called a Soup Pot. That's what it's good for. I've made stews in it too. It is not good for braising your meats because once the temperature is too high it burns the food and the crust formed on the meats gets torn away and burnt to the bottom of the pot. You can, of course, clean it off with liquids or cooking wine but you just have to control the temperature so it doesn't get too hot, otherwise you'll have a burned taste to your stew. So it is perfect for soups, but with stews it requires a bit of playing around with the stove top temperature. I have a glass ceramic stove top.

This is an excellent stainless steel pot. I usually go with non-stick, but my wife wanted a large stainless steel pot for boiling veggies. The pot performs its job admirably with no issues, and the design makes me feel like I'm getting a lot of bang for the buck.
The only con I can think of is that the lid handle does get super hot if you leave the lid on while the contents are boiling. That can potentially cause an accident, so be careful!
Dishwasher safe I believe, but too big for that, so I use an orange nylon sponge (no steel scrub pads!) with dishwasher soap, and that gets the job done. Soft sponges won't do, and the instructions say you need to get any grit out at the water line before you heat it up again or it may stain.
We actually bought another famous-name stainless steel pot for the same price, but that one developed black spots in the interior on the first boil. Both that one and this Emerilware are made in China -- but this one's a keeper.

I just received this today and it is everything that I wanted in a soup pot. It has a heavy base that ensures more even heating, spouts on the rim and lids with built in strainers, and a clear lid so you can see without lifting the lid. My last soup pot had a high quality teflon coating that has started to peel off. Really, there is no need for the potentionally dangerous teflon on a soup pot. And you can't beat this price.
